We are happy to disseminate to the www on our first successful electrical biased thermographic survey on board the Diamond Offshore Drilling rig the Ocean Valiant. Our condition monitoring PM services were effectively applied to thoroughly survey rig wide switchboards and distribution equipment to identify extreme temperature anomalies (hot-spots) that may cause unexpected power outages and drilling downtime.
The survey took place in early July 2015 off the west coast of the Shetland Islands during a two-well program in the Solan Development Field, when drilling for Primer Oil, (a leading FTSE 250 independent exploration and production company).
The Ocean Valiant is a semi-submersible rig with a ABS Classification, IMO number 875330 and built by Hyundai Heavy Industries at the Hyundai Ulsan shipyard in Korea. At an imposing 122 meters long, 71 meters wide and 37 meters high this venerated 4th generation rig is capable of drilling down to 30,000ft in 6,000ft water. Furthermore able to accommodate some 140 rig and third party service personnel.
