Geo Therm Limited infrared surveyors are proud to inform you that we are due to perform our second electrical biased thermographic survey on the impressive ENSCO 120 in the northern sector of the North Sea, has started. The survey mobilisation began at Norwich Int. Airport with a short flight to Aberdeen using the Eastern Airways scheduled service, followed by a short helicopter flight out to the Ensco 120, some 65NM north-east of Aberdeen.
The Ensco 120 is a Keppel FELS KFELS Super A Class Ultra Enhanced, independent leg, self elevating, cantilever jack-up drilling rig purposely designed to operate in harsh environments, and ideally suited for use in the North Sea where drilling the most demanding multi-well programs for ultra-deep and ultra-reach wells are becoming the norm, as required for the current Nexen Golden Eagle contract.
The Ensco 120 is the first of four new ultra-premium harsh-environment jack-up rigs in the ENSCO 120 Series. Built by Keppel FELS at the Keppel FELS, Singapore shipyard and delivered in 2013 it has an ABS Classification, IMO number 9621479 and capable of drilling down to depths of 40,000ft in 400ft of water depth.
The thermographic survey will following the rig’s exacting PTW, JSA’s and procedures and when necessary donning the full arc flash suits to minimise risk from those few places where infrared windows are not fitted. This type of third party annual survey is necessary to support the Ensco 120’s rigorous PM demands to identify extreme temperature anomalies in electrical distribution equipment and implement corrective actions, thereby preventing outages and downtime during high load drilling operations.
