We are delighted to inform our followers on the recent completion of the electrical Ex-inspection and IR survey on the Ensco 109 drilling rig. The rig is currently offshore Cabinda, Angola working for the energy giant Chevron. The surveys mark our successful return to this impressive jack-up rig following our initial Thermographic Survey back in Sept 2015.
The Ex-inspection requirement was for two Geo Therm Ltd technicians to assess the serviceability of explosive rated electrical equipment, ensuring in-situ equipment is fit for purpose. CompEx means Competency in Explosive atmospheres, it is a global certification scheme for electrical and mechanical equipment, craftspersons and designers working in potentially explosive atmospheres. The surveys took ten days to complete, beginning early May.
The Ensco 109 is a Keppel FELS KFELS MOD V B jack-up rig, built in Singapore and delivered in 2008. The rig is capable of operating in 350ft water depth and drill to depths of 35,000ft and has an ABS Classification and an IMO number #8768323. Needless to say Geo Therm Ltd are delighted with wining this combined inspection requirement, with the logistics and hospitality shown during this visit exemplary. (SL/TD)
